چکیده
Graphics count among the oldest and newest forms of communication. Maps, for example, have been drawn in the sand or incised in stone or imprinted in clay for millennia. Maps now appear on PDAs or are downloaded from websites or are updated in car navigation systems. Ancient maps and modern ones, maps produced by professionals and those created by novices, by children and by adults, share many features. They schematize the information, eliminating some of it and simplifying other (Tversky, 2000). Long distances with little of importance are shortened, curves are eliminated, turns are simplified to 90 degrees. Maps also display information not present in the terrain, names of landmarks, icons for churches or markets, and boundaries. Maps may present perspectives not possible in the world, showing overviews of networks of roads and frontal views of salient landmarks. These distortions and embellishments of actual space seem to

Cross-linguistic Influence at Syntax-pragmatics Interface: A Case of OPC in Persian
Recent research in the area of Second Language Acquisition has proposed that bilinguals and L2 learners show syntactic indeterminacy when syntactic properties interface with other cognitive domains. Most of the research in this area has focused on the pragmatic use of syntactic properties while the investigation of compliance with a grammatical rule at syntax-related interfaces has not received...

متن کاملCartographic Communication in the Perspective of the Linguistic Pragmatics
When writing about pragmatics, theoreticians of cartography usually refer to the classic "Foundations of the theory of signs" by Morris (1938). Let me remind that Morris has divided semiotics into three basic branches: semantics, syntactics and pragmatics. Originally semantics was defined as the study of the sign meanings (or of relationships between linguistic forms and entities in the world),...
متن کاملComputation of language - an essay on syntax, semantics and pragmatics in natural man-machine communication
Preparing the books to read every day is enjoyable for many people. However, there are still many people who also don't like reading. This is a problem. But, when you can support others to start reading, it will be better. One of the books that can be recommended for new readers is computation of language an essay on syntax semantics and pragmatics in natural man machine communication. This boo...
متن کاملReverse Engineering of Network Software Binary Codes for Identification of Syntax and Semantics of Protocol Messages
Reverse engineering of network applications especially from the security point of view is of high importance and interest. Many network applications use proprietary protocols which specifications are not publicly available. Reverse engineering of such applications could provide us with vital information to understand their embedded unknown protocols. This could facilitate many tasks including d...
متن کاملSemantics-first Natura rocessi
There is no consensus on how syntax and semantic/pragmatics should interact in natural language processing. This paper focuses on one issue concerning interaction: order of processing. Two approaches are compared empirically: an interleaved syntax-first approach, in which semantic interpretations is performed at intermediate points during parsing; and a semantics-first approach, in which semant...
